A practical Old Town walking order
Begin around Sebilj, continue through the craft streets and Kazandžiluk, then move toward the Gazi Husrev-beg complex. From there, walk west toward the point where Ottoman lanes meet Austro-Hungarian streets, or south toward the river, Vijećnica and Latin Bridge.
Food, coffee and shopping
Baščaršija is ideal for a compact food walk: ćevapi or pita, Bosnian coffee, then a dessert. For shopping, look for documented local craft places and compare workmanship rather than assuming every souvenir is locally made.
Mosques, museums and living heritage
The district is not an outdoor museum. Mosques remain active places of worship, shops are working businesses and museums have their own entry rules. Use respectful clothing and behavior, and check visitor access before entering.
How much time to allow
